  • Jackie's Critters & Things

    0 Comments Comments
If you have ever travelled the small communities in Ontario you will be amazed at many local stores that are devoted to the hobby and passion of the industry. Bowmanville is home to one of these unique reptile specialty shops. Jackies Critters & Things was established in 2008 by Jackie Kroon.

Jackie an established Bearded Dragon breeders was enjoying her success in a field that was coveting breeders such as herself that was striving for color and pet Dragons. Her ambition to open a specialty shop was fueled by her success and knack at breeding Bearded Dragons. Jackie’s reptile hatchlings were soon taking up to much space at home. She was being forced to drive distance’s weekly to fill her growing collections bellies and to seek out the products and support items her pets needed.

Here is one of her hatchling’s that garnered fame in the local news media. Her two headed Bearded Dragon that she nursed during its short existence was a rarity that many have witnessed once in a lifetime. Not Jackie though she has touched this accomplishment twice now in her Bearded Dragon history.

Jackie being the avid reptile keeper herself saw the niche market want in her area of Bowmanville. The need for a specialty reptile store was growing as she was placing the hatchling Beardeds she was producing in her community. Already breeding Bearded Dragons she knew the want (and need) for knowledge, experience and good old fashion customer service was a void that she could fill well.

Tucked into a unique location the transformation of a 600 square foot store began. Adding lines that all reptile enthusiasts could benefit from ZOO MED, HAGEN, RZILLA, FLUKERS, Repashy, CLARKES along with some of the best kept reptiles in the hobby from her own collection on display her dream was now a reality.

Jackie was soon not only the Dragon lady of Bowmanville she was now the goto person in Bowmanville and the many surrounding communities. The store itself grew in inventory both live and dry. It was clearly the reptile destination spot for many reptile keepers for their weekly feed, supplies and herp social gatherings. If there was a ever a story to relate to the famous line “if you build it they will come” well this is it.

Jackie’s service philosophy is always “we will always have all the animal’s best interest at heart. If a client is considering a reptile as a pet, we will help them choose the best pet to suit their lifestyle.”

Jackie has come to the next step in the life line of becoming the cornerstone of the reptile hobby in here area where she has outgrown the little store. Her success in breedings of Bearded Dragons, her need for feeder orders, the growth of many product lines and the her efforts of offering the best service that reptile consumers have appreciated Jackies Critters is about to grow.

Not just grow but implode into a store location three times the size plus of her present spot. Jackie has some great plans ready to set into motion and will WOW the local residents of Bowmanville and support her ever growing reptile clients.

With the changes in the local by-law Jackie’s Critters will be adding a second to none selection of the many Ball Python morphs available, along with the number of now permitted reptiles that will be welcome in Bowmanville her selection will be also tripling in diversity with her new location.

Jackie wants to let her clients know that during this expansion her store will not let anyone down. As she says “there will never be any hungry reptiles in Bowmanville”. Rest assured it will be business as usual moving forward. Then once Jackies Critters new location opens up it will be a whole new venture.

So the next time your out for a drive into Bowmanville be sure to drop into Jackies Critters & Things or catch Jackie at one of the upcoming Reptile Expo’s.

    Awesome new rubbermaid bins!

I've seen threads in the states about guys using these as sub adult GTP enclosures and I've been wondering when they would come to Canada. Good score
