Stripped Hairless Rat - new mutation!? lol

Hey Everyone,

I had to share this cuz I thought it was really cool. I breed rats as feeders and found this little guy the other day.
He has hair everywhere like a normal rat but as you can see in the pic the "stripe" is almost completely hair free.
He is prefectly healthy and active like every other rat I weaned from his litter.
I'm going to try and breed him back to him mother to see if i can reproduce this or if it was just a 1 off mutation.

Has any one seen something like this before ?

That's pretty neat for sure. I have raised thousands over the years but have not seen one like that. I do have a strain now though that is throwing babies with super short hard shinny coats that have no under coat. Raising rats is almost as much fun as the reptiles are. Too bad they are for food .

Rats are a blast to breed, they do grow on you after a while. Very nice "mutation" I hope it proves out for you.

We have bred close to 50 of those, ours came from a Rex (het hairless I believe) to a normal hooded. I didnt look at your pic that closely but I'll bet he has curly whiskers. The bald patch will grow back in but always look like a cheap tupay. On some of them the bald section would grow back and then bald out again later and always grow back a
Slightly different color then before. Unfortunetly my rat room over heated and I lost alot of our colonies last year including the goerge Jefferson lineage (that's what I called them) lol

Just noticed the straight whiskers on that one myself. Hairless & Rex both have curly whiskers right?

HAiless and Rex do for sure have curly whiskers, can't remember 100% on these intermediates for sure. I wouldn't mind getting a couple of these when I add new blood to my groups. Kinda cool in there own right and not esp common.

both parents are regular hooded rats. no rex blood in my colony.
